Last week I visited the Whyteleafe & Kenley Community Hub, set up in the back of the Whyteleafe Tavern, to catch up with Deano Cline and team. Started during the pandemic, the volunteers at the Hub deliver food parcels to over 40 families from supplies donated by local businesses and residents.
They explained their ambitions to transform one of the pub’s halls into a community space for social events and volunteer groups to use. I've connected them to Your Fund Surrey - a £100 million fund set aside by Surrey County Council for local community projects just like this one - and I am very pleased to say they've confirmed a meeting for Deano and team next month.
I am hugely impressed by the dedication, enterprise and heart of the Hub volunteers. The support they have provided to local families is so much more than a sum of the donations given out.
If you have an idea you'd like to put forward to Your Fund Surrey - whether it’s a new community centre, new community sports pitches, ways to rejuvenate the high street, expanding charity premises, or a new urban beach or playground – do take a look here for more information. The more ambitious, the better.
