It was a pleasure to speak to Clare and Peter at the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People about their important work on digital inclusion for people with disabilities.
They provide digital programmes from virtual clubs to virtual sight-seeing trips, and they also match users up with a ‘tech angel’ over a 6-10 week period to help them get set up with the new technology.
And I’m pleased to say these initiatives have not only helped in improving users’ mental health but also reducing feelings of loneliness, which is so encouraging to hear.
They both explained that access to Wifi can still be a problem for some people, so I’ve agreed to raise the issue with Ministers at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and also with leaders at Surrey County Council to see what can be done to help widen access.
