Standing with my Conservative colleagues against Labour’s plans to introduce a Family Farms Tax.
I’ve heard directly from local farmers, including tenant farmers with not very much acreage, who are desperately worried about what this will mean for their futures. Some have farmed the same land for generations, they deserve our gratitude not to be taxed into oblivion.
It was one of many things Labour promised not to do in the election, but then coming into power they blindsided people who work day in, day out to put food on our tables.
For those who say there’s no other way to fund the NHS, we’re losing £12bn tax revenues because Ed Miliband wants to shut down the North Sea - something no other major economy is doing. That would pay for this at least ten times over. They’re taking money away from pensioners, farmers and low-income workers to fund plans based on ideology.
