March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and I want to make sure every woman across East Surrey knows the symptoms and what to look out for. I’ve had some friends and family go through cancer and the earlier the diagnosis the better.
If diagnosed at the earliest stage, 9 in 10 women survive ovarian cancer. But two thirds are diagnosed late, when it's harder to treat. The four key symptoms of ovarian cancer are:
- Persistent bloated tummy
- Always feeling full
- Tummy pain
- Needing to urinate more
Towards the end of last year, I spoke with Victoria Robinson from Cancer Research and she outlined her concerns about delays in diagnoses and some people's reluctance to speak with their doctors.
As your MP, I just want to emphasise that if you have existing medical appointments or if you think you need to speak to your doctor about a medical issue or if you find anything irregular when doing self-checks, the NHS remains open and ready to serve you.
