There’s no such thing as petty crime – all lawbreaking undermines public confidence in the rules and trust in each other. I’m proud that across Surrey we’ve delivered 295 more police officers since 2019, installed more CCTV and ANPR cameras to gather evidence, and been granted £1 million from the Government’s Safer Streets fund.
Last year, I held a meeting with Surrey Police, our Police and Crime Commissioner, Lisa Townsend, and the Oxted BID to make sure that businesses’ concerns were heard and that more steps were being taken to tackle this issue. We must continue working with local retailers to tackle shoplifting, make the most of technology to catch repeat offenders, and prioritise the safety of women and girls.
