I'm delighted to confirm that the long-awaited resurfacing works on Massetts Road will be carried out between 17-28 May (weather permitting).
Improving our roads has been one of my top priorities since I became your MP in December 2019. I campaigned at the March 2020 Budget for much-needed funds and managed to secure £33.5 million extra for potholes locally.
Having heard locally about the concerns residents had about Massetts Road, I brought Surrey County Council (SCC) to visit. After the pothole was then fixed, I visited to inspect the work – it was clear that the patch-up job was not good enough and that the road needed proper work.
After much banging on doors alongside Horley Town Councillors, SCC agreed to carry out resurfacing, and I’m pleased this issue will hopefully be resolved in just a few weeks’ time.
At my end, I will continue to work with local leaders on my East of Surrey Local Economic Taskforce to push forward on our infrastructure priorities.
I have also written to SCC about the pothole contractor, which is up for review, to stress the need for quality repairs as well as increased monitoring of repairs.
I am extremely supportive of SCC's new Lane Rental Scheme spearheaded by the Cabinet Member for Highways, Matt Furniss, which will mean utility companies will need to repair the roads they need to dig up or face fees.
