Last week, the Government announced a package of measures that will support the reopening of our high streets, giving East Surrey's local economy a boost ahead of what we are all hoping will be a great summer.
The new £56 million Welcome Back Fund will give councils the funding they need to boost tourism, improve green spaces and provide more outdoor seating areas, markets and food stalls.
I’m delighted to report that Tandridge District Council has been granted £77,880 from the fund and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council has been granted £132,264.
The Government is also giving businesses such as pubs and restaurants the flexibility to set up marquees and extra outdoor seating, as well as introducing a series of fairer parking measures that will encourage people to return to high streets and town centres.
Supporting our local economy, particularly high streets, is a priority for me and my East of Surrey Local Economic Taskforce. We will continue to do all we can in the weeks ahead to ensure a smooth, successful and speedy recovery as we ease lockdown restrictions.
