Delighted that our bid to establish a local Institute of Technology has taken a significant step forward this week.
If successful, this would mean a £13 million investment for higher-level technical training facilities, providing people across East Surrey with the digital and green skills needed for the jobs of the future, with some extremely exciting world-leading businesses eager to collaborate.
It would also help to address the disproportionate economic impact of the pandemic across our region - particularly the impact on the aviation sector which is hugely important to us locally - and offer existing workers the chance to reskill and train in new high-skill, high-pay industries.
This has been driven by the hard work of Coast2Capital and I’ve been delighted to support their bid in my role as MP and through my East of Surrey Local Economic Taskforce over the past few months, so I'm really pleased it has passed this highly competitive first stage and is now shortlisted for the final stage.
