One of my passions is women’s safety and getting women into politics. I recently had the pleasure of attending East Surrey Business Club's Ladies' Lunch and meeting with the Meridian Ladies to hear about their work.
On the national level, I’m pleased to share that Surrey will receive an additional £174,000 from the Government's Safer Streets Fund. This will bring the total amount of support Surrey has received from the fund to over £1 million.
The money will go towards ensuring Surrey Police have the tools and resources that they need not only to support education and awareness programmes but also to address underlying causes of violence against women and girls.
The Government has also launched an important new tool called Street Safe, which allows people to anonymously report areas where they don't feel safe.
The information collected will be used to help the police identify areas that need improving and help to make the streets safer for everyone, again with a focus on women and girls.
You can access Street Safe by clicking here. And if you'd like to help support the wonderful work being done locally by Michelle and team at East Surrey Domestic Abuse Service (ESDAS), you can make a donation by clicking here.
