Some of you may have seen that the Government launched the Aviation Skills Retention Platform last week, a scheme designed to find jobs for those in the aviation sector who may be unable to work as a result of the pandemic, or to find similar roles that match their existing skillset.
In partnership with several leading employers, including the Civil Aviation Association, BAE Systems and Rolls Royce, there are currently around 2,185 vacancies, with more added every day.
I know that aviation workers have been among the hardest hit by the pandemic. Indeed, this is an industry which affects residents of East Surrey more than most with our proximity to Gatwick.
In addition to the £7 billion of support the Government has provided for the sector, this scheme will help to preserve and nurture essential expertise while addressing the wider skills shortage in the market while we wait for international travel to restart.
