HGVs are a part of life - they transport critical supplies like food and medicine across the country, and they allow our brilliant local businesses to thrive. But it's important that there is a balance between their needs and local residents' concerns.
I'm pleased that the Prime Minister confirmed in response to my question at PMQs today - which you can view here - that reform of the Traffic Commissioner is something Ministers will look at to improve this balance.
And after my meeting with the Transport Minister last month, I'm looking forward to the Government bringing forward legislation in the autumn to give local authorities enforcement powers against moving traffic offences.
Looking ahead, I will be organising a roundtable with our HGV operator firms and local Parish Councils to ensure both our local businesses and our residents can enjoy the benefits of East Surrey.
