In a former life, I helped to set up National Numeracy Day, so it always makes me smile when it comes around each year.
From getting the best deal on your phone contract to running your own business and helping our children succeed in the jobs of the future, being good problem solvers and being confident numbers is a critical part of our lives and our economy.
I recently visited Hazelwood School on their Maths Day, where their Year 7 & 8 pupils had really committed to the cause in numeric fancy dress. We had a wide ranging Q&A, covering my time studying Maths & Philosophy at university, to a typical day in the life as an MP and how many rooms there are in Number 10.
Thank you to Mrs MacDougall and Mrs Phillimote, their Head of Maths for such a kind welcome.
