Happy International Women’s Day!
Since before my time as an MP, I’ve worked across political parties to encourage more women to stand for positions in public life.
Whatever your political persuasion or background, we will need the very best community leaders to help us rebuild in the years ahead, which is why the awareness that International Women’s Day brings is so vital.
All positions in public life should feel open and accessible to everyone, no matter what you look like. It’s what’s in between your ears that counts.
On this International Women’s Day, we've announced the creation of a new advisory council to lead Britain’s gender equality work at the G7 so that the world's leading economies can work together to support women across the globe.
Ministers will also use the G7 to encourage more women and girls to take up STEM based careers or education opportunities.
I will be joining a Zoom event this Thursday at 7pm to talk about being a women in politics alongside our candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner, Lisa Townsend. You can sign up by clicking here.
