One of the good things that's emerged from the past 18 months is the army of community action groups. From the very beginning of the pandemic, some set up food hubs, some made PPE, some provided comfort and friendship to people who would have otherwise been completely cut off from the outside world.
I personally believe that this community spirit makes us happier and healthier, and that local residents tend to make better decisions about what's best for their local communities too.
So I am very pleased that the Government has decided to put £150 million of funding directly in the hands of communities, allowing local people to own places in their area which are at risk of closure - from pubs and parks, to theatres and sports grounds, to leisure centres and community hubs.
The first bidding round opened on 15 July, so if you're interested in finding out more do take a look by clicking here - and as always please don't hesitate to get in touch with me at [email protected] if I can be of any help.
