The independent energy regulator, Ofgem, has confirmed that the energy price cap will go up by £693 from April.
We know this will be a difficult time for people. Rising energy prices are a global challenge, and we can’t pretend there is a domestic solution to make that go away.
But the Chancellor has just announced three measures to help with household bills:
- £200 discount on energy bills for every single household this year from October. This will be paid back over the next five years at £40 per year, starting from April 2023.
- £150 discount on council tax for all homes in bands A-D in April. This will not need to be paid back.
- £144 million of discretionary funding for local authorities to support households that need extra help.
