Claire Coutinho is launching an Award scheme to celebrate the individuals and businesses from East Surrey who have gone above and beyond for their community during the Coronavirus crisis.
Each week Claire will announce an individual and a business East Surrey Community Champion on her Facebook page. Each East Surrey Community Champion will be awarded a signed certificate and, once social distancing rules allow, will be invited to a special event to celebrate and honour their work.
Claire said “I have been humbled by the response that has sprung up from our communities. This local support has been a vital weapon in the battle against coronavirus. I hope that through East Surrey Community Champion Award we can begin to thank the people and businesses who have been carrying out extraordinary acts of kindness in our communities.
Amidst this national crisis, the people of East Surrey have come together to support each other. We have seen an army of volunteers supporting their neighbours and the most vulnerable in our communities. Our NHS and social care workers continue to battle heroically to protect people from the virus, risking their lives to save ours. Businesses and organisations have played their part too. Pubs are providing food boxes and take away meals. Supermarkets are working around the clock to feed their communities. Our parish, district and county councils have transformed their services to fit changing need. From delivering food to collecting medicines to sewing gowns to telephoning the lonely - this very worst of times has brought out the very best in people.”
Anyone can nominate someone that they believe has gone above and beyond. Nominations can be from individuals, businesses, parish councils, churches and organisations.
