As you can probably tell, I love being a constituency MP and representing East Surrey in Parliament.
Growing up, I watched my parents work as family doctors in the NHS, listening to people's problems and solving them as best they could. It is in that spirit that I strive to serve local residents every day.
I strongly believe that another one of my duties as an MP is to look at the national picture and keep an eye on the long term.
We have to write, scrutinise and pass legislation in the House of Commons which will not only impact those alive today, but those yet to be born.
That's why I was honoured to be appointed as a Visiting Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford, last year.
I’m really looking forward to listening to, and learning from, some of the world's leading academics in the years ahead to make sure that all our work in Parliament is shaped by the latest and greatest research.
