In last week's budget, some of the important changes that will benefit hardworking families right here in East Surrey were the changes to child benefit. In case you missed it, here is what we announced:
1. We’re raising the threshold at which families start to pay the HICBC (High-Income Child Benefit Charge) from £50,000 to £60,000. That’s almost £1,300 per year for nearly half a million families.
2. We’ll end the unfairness of single-earner families being treated the same as double-earner families. Right now, two parents earning £49,000 each get full child benefit, but one parent on £50,000 starts losing access. We’ll end this unfairness.
This is all on top of the largest ever expansion of childcare that I worked on last year, which was worth £6,500 a year for the average family. If you have any questions about how these reforms will work for you and your family, please do send me an email on [email protected].
