From 4am on 7 January, people who have been vaccinated will no longer need to do a pre-departure test before travelling to England. The requirement to self-isolate on arrival until you receive a negative PCR result will also be lifted.
Instead, we will be returning to the system we had in October last year, where those arriving in England will need to take a lateral flow test no later than the end of Day 2 and, if positive, a further PCR test to help us identify any new variants at the border.
From 11 January, if you test positive on a lateral flow test, you will no longer need to do a PCR test to confirm the result. You will just need to record the positive test on gov.uk as normal and begin self-isolating.
Anyone who tests positive will then be able to leave self-isolation seven days after their positive test if they receive two negative lateral flow test results, 24 hours apart, on days six and seven.
